1961 Austin GipsyThis absolutely stunning 1961 Austin Gipsy is ashort-wheelbase 4×4 model with left-hand drive which is finished in green with a removable white fiberglass top. Power is from a naturally-aspirated 2178cc diesel four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, and additional features include black steel wheels and rear troop seating. An oil change was recently performed and the truck is offered by the selling dealer with a period handbook, a sales brochure, and a clean title.
Approximately 21,000 examples of the Gipsy were produced between 1958 and 1968, with early models such as this example only available on a 90″ wheelbase. Rust repairs performed were new metal panels welded in below the doors on both the driver and passenger side. Some paint corrections were also performed on the front bumper.
This car includes the white fiberglass top that was installed at a cost of $6,000. Additional work includespaint finish, body panels, window seals, and glass. All five black-painted15″ stamped steel wheels are equipped with narrow period-style off-road tires.
The steel dash and interior panels are finished in green to match the exterior, while all three front seats are upholstered in darker green vinyl. Approximately 37k miles are shown on the odometer. A correct center cap has been sourced for the steering wheel.
The rear cargo space featuresside-facing “troopy†bench seats wrapped in matching green vinyl.
The Gipsy is equipped with the naturally-aspirated 2178cc diesel four which was shared by Austin-built London taxis from 1948-1981 and originally ratedat 55 horsepower with 89 lb-ft of torque.
The chassis features independent flexible rubber torsion spring suspension at all four corners. Stock gear ratios were4.05:1 to 1:1 for the 4-speed transmission, 2.02:1 and 1:1 for the twin-stick transfer case, and 5.125:1 for the differentials.I am selling this for a friend who bought it last year from Blacksmith Garage. The car was shipped and has only had a few hundred miles put on it since the purchase. He has decided due to limited garage space to sell the vehicle to make room for a newer Land Rover. The car has been driven several times the past year and otherwise has been in a temperature controlled garage on a lift.
We are happy to work wit you on shipping the car. Car is currently located in Gibson Island, MD.
