2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club

I purchased this car from an insurance auction late 2018. It had minor damage to the front/rear bumpers and was listed as a clear title Run & Drive car with mileage of 3124 but was flagged as not actual. This can happen due to dead batteries at auction or a host of other reasons but the listing did say no odometer fraud was suspected. I have no way of knowing if this mileage is correct or not but the car is a 2016 from NY so I would imagine it was driven a few months of the year for a couple years.

During transport from the auction site to my house the trucks trailer got into a muddy shoulder and tipped over while making a low speed turn. Fortunately, the car was strapped down and was not damaged…unfortunately it had to be unstrapped to right the trailer. The car was released from the trailer but was right against a bank and suffered minor damage to the passenger side of the car. The damaged items the body shop identified and can be seen in the photos include: damage to passenger side clip area of rear bumper, several dings/dents on the passenger side front/rear fender and door. Convertible top has some scuffs on it but does not appear to be leaking (car was stored outside last few months and no water is in it). Windshield and plastic trim around windshield are broken. Passenger side mirror is broken and minor scuffing to both passenger side wheels. Front bumper was pretty much mangled by the second tow truck when they loaded it on the truck after this accident. I was told by the body shop there was no structural damage to the car and have no reason to believe there would be in such a minor incident. Battery is completely dead, does not hold a charge well at all.

The second issue with the car is that it appears there was water in it at some point prior to the auction. The good news is that it’s not a typical flood auction car that sits wet for months and months with everything corroding and rusting away until the auction date. There does not appear to major corrosion/rust/mold damage that often comes with flooded cars that can cause endless problems years down the road. This car appears to have been cleaned up very well after it got wet but there still does seem to be some electrical gremlins I haven’t spent the time to sort out. The car does run and drive as I drove it about 5 miles home from the body shop after the accident but have not started it since. Odometer was 3,124 at auction so is around 3,129 now. Subsystems such as heat/AC, radio/other dash buttons seem to not be offline. No clue what exactly is going on, I started taking apart some interior panels (as you can see in the pictures and they are stored in the trunk) to work thru the various modules on the car but didn’t get very far before moving the project to the back burner. I figured worst case is replace several modules that can be found on eBay or other online junk yards for reasonable prices. Car comes with one key fob.

I originally intended to fix the car mostly myself and keep it but months have gone by and I just don’t have the time and energy to spend on it, too many other projects going on. My research and repair plans included: plastic weld rear bumper clip area, paint less dent removal on the smaller dings on passenger side of car and body work where required, live with scuffed roof or replace with used one for around $550, replace windshield and surrounding trim, replace front bumper and passenger side mirror, repair curbed wheels. Work thru modules such as climate/radio/body module to get everything back online.

There is no warranty expressed or implied. I did my best identifying what is wrong with the car however due to the nature of cars and accidents etc. damage is not limited to what I stated in this auction. If you would like further details, pictures, or to come see the car please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate. Non-refundable deposit of $500 is due with 24hrs of auction end with remainder due within 3 days. Bidders with feedback of less than 10 will be canceled and I am not shipping this car overseas. I will gladly help arrange shipping if you are located outside my immediate area. Clear title in hand, will be released when all funds have cleared.

****EDIT ABOVE, there is a typo regarding subsystems. Says "Subsystems such as heat/AC, radio/other dash buttons seem to not be offline" Should say they seem to BE OFFLINE. They are currently not turning on or functioning properly.
