1966 Ford Mustang GT FastbackRare opportunity to own a TRUE 1966 Mustang GT Fastback at a very reasonable reserve. Car has been authenticated by a local Ford Dealership. It has all the markings, equipment, emblems that distinguish it from a non-GT Mustang. The information is readily available online. I bought this car from a gentleman in West Virginia who indicated the car had been restored in 2000. It appears they kept as many of the original parts as possible as the dash, including the guages, the steering wheel, radio, knobs and foot pedals appear to be original. The steering wheel has some pitting of the metal and some paint has rubbed off the dash surrounding the 'guages. I personally see this is a plus as it is unmolested with aftermarket parts. It adds to the character of the car.
All guages work, with the possible exception of the speedometer which works but appears to be about 10 mph less than the actual speed. The heat works fine but the heater hose recently fell from the dash and needs to be reconnected. It looks like a simple spring clamp and should be an easy fix. The fit and finish of the panels is good with the exception of the trunk lid which has a 1/4 inch gap along the sides. (See picture) There are a couple of small scratches on the car and a few paint chips. The most noticeable scratch is about an inch long near the GT emblem on left side of the car. I had the car garaged the entire time I owned it up until about a year ago when I moved to a place with no garage. Because of being out in the sun, the clear coat has faded in certain spots on the car. Its still a beautiful car that gets a lot of attention everywhere you go.
The car originally came with dual quad Carter Carbuerators. It was really fast but used too much gasoline and it was overkill on a 289. I replaced it with an Edelbrock intake manifold and a Holly Street Avenger 570 cfm Carb. I replaced the ignition with MSD components. If desired, I will throw in the original dual Quad setup and original cam to the winning bidder.
The particulars of the car are as follows:
Build date- 17L- November 17, 1965
Production facility- Dearborn, MI
Body- 63A (2+2 Fastback)
Trim- 26 (Standard)
Trans- 5 (4 Speed Manual)
Color- T (Candy Apple Red)
Don't expect to win every car show with this car. As I said it has a few flaws. But I believe with a relatively small investment this could be a show car The car is insured through Hagerty's They have very strict valuation classes. I had a long talk with my rep on this. He thinks its a #3-#4 car with the only thing keeping it from being a solid #3 being the paint. Its insured for $28 k. My reserve is a little North of half of that and Im taking a risk but I feel that when the reserve comes off people will realize the true rarity and collectability of this car. . There were only 28,000 GT Fastbacks made for the 1966 year. Many were raced and wrecked and it is getting increasingly difficult to find them in this condition. I was amused when it asked for safety features. There are none. You need to pay attention when you drive this car. The lap belts will not protect you
I have done my best to describe this car as accurately as possible. However due to the age of the vehicle I am selling it "AS IS"
I have 100% positive feedback and I intend to keep it that way I reserve the right to reject bidders based on too little feedback history or negative feedback. I will accept Bank Wires, cashiers checks and personal checks once they clear. I prefer local pickup but I will ship the car if needed This car was shipped from West Virginia and there were no problems. Buyer to arrange shipping.
