1956 Ford ThunderbirdI have owned this car since 1975 ; it has had only 2 previous owners: Sold new in Memphis, bought later by a New Orleans couple who got divorced, I bought it from a consignment retailer there. It is Thunderbird Gray (very rare color), black and white interior, 3-speed manual, 312 CI engine, power steering, wire wheel covers, radio, fender skirts, fog lights, emergency brake warning light, seat belts and padded dash (Safety Package "B"), and has both tops. I did a body-off restoration from 1985 to 1988; every nut, bolt, and part was refurbished or replaced. Professional mechanics rebuilt the engine and the transmission. The soft top is black Haartz canvas, and the hard top is black non-porthole. The hard top has a new headliner and NOS weatherstrip but needs new paint for Concours. I have photos of the restoration and the original invoice.
For dependability and performance, I replaced the troublesome original "smoke stack" or "Christmas tree" carburetor with a 1957 Thunderbird carb, along with a 1957 Thunderbird intake manifold and distributor. I also installed a more modern radio. The original carb, intake, distributor, air cleaner and radio are included in the sale. I also have an air conditioner that goes with the car; the condenser is installed because I didn't want to remove the grille, etc. later, but the rest of the system is new. I bought it from CASCO..It has been driven only about 3,000 miles since the restoration, and I have never driven it in rain; the rain on the car in some of the pics happened just after I had washed the car under the portico. The paint and bumpers are perfect, and the undercarriage is as clean as the body. There is absolutely no rust on the car. It starts and cranks easily, it has no rattles, tracks nicely, and everything works,
I will take pics of any area of the car that you designate; this is a "no excuses" auto. This car has been in the South its entire life, and it has absolutely no rust. Message me with any questions you have, and they'll be answered honestly.
The only reason I'm selling this car is that I'm retired and old, and I need to reduce my small collection. Plus, lying on the concrete under a car at Midnight isn't nearly as much fun as it once was! This car is for sale locally and on other sites, and this ad may be cancelled without notice A Down Payment of $2,000 is required within 48 hours of purchase.
BTW, e-Bay requires me to enter the mileage. I don't know the actual mileage, so I entered the mileage showing on the car when I bought it in 1975.
